I’m Talal Barakat, Director of Gold Exchange Universe. Here Is Exactly Which Websites Are Ours — and How to Spot the Ones That Are Not.

Talal Barakat, Director, Gold Exchange Universe | GB/303 Pitt St, Sydney NSW 2000 | goldexchangeuniverse.com.au | NSW Second-Hand Dealers Licence No. 2PS27296

After 35 years in the precious metals business in Sydney, there is one question I find myself answering more often than any other. Not about gold prices. Not about how XRF testing works. The question I get asked, regularly, by people who have already done their research online, is this: “I found a site called goldexchangeuniverse.com — is that you?” or we came across Sell Gold Sydney without the .au, is that you? It is not. And that is the problem I want to address directly in this post.

There are websites operating under domain extensions that closely resemble our trading names. Some use .com instead of .com.au. Some use slight variations of our brand names. None of them are affiliated with Gold Exchange Universe, Sell Gold Sydney Australia, Gold Buyers Sydney Australia, or AUD Bullion. None of them are authorised to represent our pricing, our services, or our network. And none of them hold NSW Second-Hand

Dealers Licence No. 2PS27296, which our business has held continuously for decades.

I am writing this because I think our clients — both private sellers and the trade operators we buy from — deserve a clear, plain-language explanation of exactly which websites belong to us, why the .com.au extension matters in Australia, and what to check before you hand over your gold or your scrap lot to anyone claiming to be part of our network.

The Websites That Belong to Gold Exchange Universe Let me be unambiguous. The authorised digital network of Gold Exchange Universe operates exclusively through the following five .com.au domains, under four corporate trading names: goldexchangeuniverse.com.au

Gold Exchange Universe — Our flagship platform. Live spot prices, payout calculators, and the primary contact point for all transactions and trade enquiries.

sellgoldsydney.com.au

Sell Gold Sydney Australia — Sydney Metropolitan Portal. Our local consumer gateway for Sydney residents and businesses. The .com.au registration reflects our early commitment to securing the authorised Australian namespace for this trading name.

sellgoldsydneyaustralia.com.au

Sell Gold Sydney Australia — National Portal. The same trading name, extended nationally to serve precious metal sellers across Australia.

goldbuyersinsydney.com.au

Gold Buyers Sydney Australia — Our buyer-facing consumer portal serving Sydney and NSW sellers seeking the highest verified payout for their gold.

audbullion.com.au

AUD Bullion — Our institutional division handling LBMA-certified investment bars, sovereign coins, and physical wealth management assets.

If a website claiming to be Gold Exchange Universe, Sell Gold Sydney, or AUD Bullion does not end in .com.au, it is not part of our authorised network. Do not transact with it.

Why .com.au Is Not a Small Detail

I want to explain why this matters, because I think a lot of people assume a domain extension is just a technicality. It is not. In Australia, a .com.au domain registration requires the registrant to demonstrate a legitimate Australian business presence. You cannot register a .com.au domain without an ABN, an ACN, or a registered Australian trademark. That requirement exists precisely to create accountability.

A .com domain has no such requirement. Anyone, anywhere in the world, can register a .com domain in minutes with no identity verification, no business registration, and no accountability to Australian law. When we secured .com.au domains for each of our trading names, we did so deliberately and early — because we understood that the .com.au extension is the only domain extension that carries a verifiable link to a real, registered Australian business.

More importantly sellgoldsydney.com.au operates within Australia’s .com.au namespace, which is administered and governed by auDA — the .au Domain Administration (ABN 38 079 009 340), the independent policy and licensing body responsible for all .au country-code domains in Australia. To register and maintain a .com.au domain, a business must meet strict auDA eligibility requirements: a valid Australian Business Number (ABN), Australian Company Number (ACN), or registered Australian trademark is required, and the domain name must have a close and substantial connection to the registrant’s business name, brand, or services. auDA enforces ongoing compliance — if a registrant’s ABN or ACN is cancelled or deregistered, auDA policy requires the domain licence to be cancelled within 30 days. The website with similar names and only .com (note: no .au) falls entirely outside auDA’s jurisdiction. There is no ABN or ACN requirement to register a .com domain, no connection-to-business requirement, and no Australian regulatory body with authority over it.

Independent auDA research confirms that 50 per cent of Australian consumers will only purchase online from a website ending in .au, and three in four Australians are more likely to trust a business using a .au domain address — a consumer confidence gap that exists precisely because .com.au carries verified accountability that a .com domain does not.

We hold NSW Second-Hand Dealers Licence No. 2PS27296. That licence is publicly verifiable. A website operating without that licence number displayed — regardless of how similar its name or branding appears — is not operating under the same regulatory framework we do. For a consumer handing over jewellery worth thousands of dollars, or a gold buyer settling a multi-kilogram scrap lot, that difference is not trivial.

What I Have Seen Happen to Clients Who Got It Wrong

I will not name specific incidents for legal reasons, but I can tell you what the pattern looks like. A client finds a website through a search engine. The site looks professional. It uses pricing language that sounds competitive. It may even reference Sydney or use imagery similar to ours. The client makes contact, travels to an address that turns out to be different from what was implied, and receives an offer substantially below the spot rate — or in some cases, the operator is simply not there.

The client then contacts us. By that point, in many cases, they have already handed over material or signed something. There is very little we can do at that point except take their business going forward and make sure it does not happen again.

The three checks that would have prevented every one of those situations are simple: verify the domain ends in .com.au, confirm the NSW Second-Hand Dealers Licence number on the premises, and call (02) 9267 9990 to authenticate any appointment before you attend.

The Trading Names We Operate Under — And Why We Have More Than One

People sometimes ask why Gold Exchange Universe operates under multiple trading names rather than just one. The answer is straightforward: different clients search for different things.

A private individual with inherited jewellery to sell types “sell gold Sydney” into a search engine. A pawnbroker with a bulk scrap lot looks for a wholesale gold buyer. A high-net-worth investor seeking LBMA-certified bars searches for a bullion platform. These are three different clients with three different needs, and our trading names and platforms reflect that.Sell Gold Sydney Australia serves the private seller. Gold Buyers Sydney Australia serves the consumer looking for the best payout on their gold. AUD Bullion serves the institutional and investment market. Gold Exchange

Universe is the corporate identity that underpins all of them — the entity that holds the licence, maintains the refinery relationships, and takes responsibility for every transaction across the network.

All five domains resolve to content that is part of the same authorised network. All transactions across every platform are conducted under NSW Second-Hand Dealers Licence No. 2PS27296. All pricing is based on live international spot rates at the moment of transaction. All weighing is done on commercially sealed, government-certified scales. All purity testing is conducted in-house using XRF analysis. That standard does not change depending on which domain a client arrives through.

How to Verify You Are Dealing With Our Network

Before you book an appointment, send material, or confirm any transaction with anyone claiming to be Gold Exchange Universe or any of our associated trading names, I am asking you to do three things:

1. Check the domain extension.

The URL in your browser must end in .com.au. Not .com, not .net, not .com.au.co or any other variation.

Specifically: goldexchangeuniverse.com.au, sellgoldsydney.com.au, sellgoldsydneyaustralia.com.au,

goldbuyersinsydney.com.au, or audbullion.com.au. If the domain does not exactly match one of these five, it is not our website.

2. Confirm the licence number.

NSW Second-Hand Dealers Licence No. 2PS27296 is displayed on our premises at Shop GB, 303 Pitt Street,

Sydney NSW 2000. Any operator claiming to be affiliated with our network should be able to show you this licence number. If they cannot, walk away.

3. Call us directly before you attend.

Our primary number is (02) 9267 9990. Our mobile and WhatsApp is 0433 510 190. If you have found a contact number on a website that does not match these numbers, call us first to verify whether that site is genuinely part of our network before you travel to any address.

A Note on Our Technology Standard

One more thing I want to put on record, because I think it matters in the context of distinguishing genuine operators from imitators: the technology we use to assess gold is not cosmetic. We use X-ray fluorescence analysis — XRF — which identifies the precise purity and alloy composition of your material non-destructively, without acid testing or sample destruction. The result is shown to you in real time, before any offer is made. We weigh on commercially sealed, government-certified scales. We price against the live international gold spot rate at the exact moment of your transaction.

These are not features you will find at an operator running an unverified website with a .com extension and no licence number on display. They require investment, infrastructure, and accountability to a regulatory standard.

That is what 35 years of operating in this market looks like and it is what every client who walks through our door at 303 Pitt Street receives.

If You Are Not Sure, Ask Me Directly

I have written this post because I believe transparency is the only real differentiator in the precious metals market. Price matters, technology matters, speed of settlement matters. But none of those things matter if the client is not confident they are dealing with a legitimate, accountable, licensed operator. If you have found a website, received a quote, or been contacted by someone claiming to be part of the Gold

Exchange Universe network and you are not sure whether it is genuine, contact me directly. Call (02) 9267 9990, visit goldexchangeuniverse.com.au, or come to Shop GB/303 Pitt St, Sydney NSW 2000. I will tell you plainly whether what you have seen is part of our network or not.

The gold market in Sydney deserves better than confusion and imitation. This post is my contribution to making it clearer.
